About the Founder and Director
Debra Thoresen is a Michigan native where she attended Interlochen Center for the Arts and received her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Western Michigan University. She began her music career in Boston in 1980 as ballet accompanist at Boston Ballet School, Boston Repertory Ballet and Walnut Hill School.
Debra is Founder/ Director of The Community Youth Orchestras of Boston and has directed orchestras, chamber music and string programs at Mount Alvernia High School, Arlington Public Schools and Belmont Hill School, while receiving numerous Massachusetts Music Educator All-State awards. As well as conducting the Community Youth Orchestras of Boston, Ms. Thoresen is String Instrumental Music Director at Belmont Day School in Belmont, MA and Orchestra Conductor at Concord Academy in Concord, MA.
